Developing leaders of learning and University of Tasmania, Australia
University of Tasmania, Australia
The University Learning and Teaching Development Project is the fourth and final unit in the University of Tasmania's Graduate Certificate in University Learning and Teaching. The unit provides participants with an opportunity to undertake a supervised project on a strategic learning and teaching priority of the University that is of demonstrated benefit to the individual and their school. Participants are required to lead the implementation and evaluation of their project in their workplace incorporating knowledge developed in previous units in the course. Innovations may include curriculum design, delivery and assessment, teaching/research nexus, internationalisation or any other university learning and teaching priority. In the third unit of the course participants are required to plan the implementation of their innovation in their workplace demonstrating knowledge of contemporary leadership and change management theories as well as the underlying teaching and learning principles and practices associated with their innovation. Members of the senior executive, deans and heads of school are invited to attend the final class of the third unit where participants present their plans and receive strategic feedback. This work-in-progress will discuss the preliminary outcomes and experiences of the first cohort of thirty participants including perceived strengths and weaknesses of such an approach for both the participants and the institution. | |||||
