Universities collaborating to establish standards for foundation programs for academic staff development University of Adelaide, Australia
This activity session builds on a project proposal submitted to the Collaboration and Structural Reform Fund, and the activities undertaken at the annual Foundation Colloquium, in relation to introductory, induction or foundation programs for staff new to teaching in higher education. The objectives of the project are to:
1. develop an educational template for content and workshop activities in order to improve standards and allow benchmarking opportunities
2. provide best practice content and workshop activities (using the educational template) for foundation programs in academic staff development and Graduate Certificate programs in university teaching
3. incorporate workshop sessions into the annual Foundation Colloquium to present, assess, and report on materials developed, modified and used as part of the project
4. further develop the Foundation Colloquium website to disseminate the resources resulting from this project
5. enhance collaboration between higher educational institutions in the provision of academic staff development programs.
This activity session will allow participants to engage particularly with the first objective and contribute to the development of the proposed educational templates. Participants would work on the criteria for a set of core, shared components in foundation staff development programs and prepare a draft list of potential standards and benchmarks associated with foundation staff development programs. The session will also provide a networking opportunity for participants so that they may continue to collaborate on the draft documentation, and use the content in their own institutions. | |||||
