Can a practice based website be an effective vehicle
for building capacity, knowledge and skills in
the domain of home modification?

Catherine Bridge
University of Sydney, Australia

The Home Modification and Maintenance information clearinghouse (HMMinfo) <http://www.arch.usyd.edu.au/hmminfo.html> website will be demonstrated live. The online presentation will be interactive and will focus on a how learners and practitioners can use the website to facilitate the asking and answering of practice relevant questions. The website brings together learners, practitioners and researchers. This online community and interactive discussion enables learners to see the relevance of course content and research outcomes.

It achieves this by providing information about the organisation and distribution of Home Modification and Maintenance Services in NSW. Additionally, it focuses on the sharing of systematically reviewed information designed to develop the critical abilities required in an increasingly evidence-based practice world. In this innovative collaborative virtual community, researchers and graduate students work with in partnership with practitioners to develop mutually valued resources and this creates a win: win gradient for sharing, valuing and understanding perspectives. It also assists to build a domain of practice knowledge and reduces duplication of effort across the sector.
