A paperless learning environment

Recent advancements in the area of online learning has created a buzz in the education scene. In the late 90s bulletin boards and newsgroups used to be a hot topic among students and educators alike. Nowadays, the Blogger and Blogspots are becoming increasingly popular as a tool to foster an online platform to enhance the learning process outside of the classroom. This paper will delve into the utilization of Weblogs, a web-based journaling weblog as an alternate mode of genre to encourage collaborative learning. Weblogs are effective sources of doing assignments/projects as opposed to the conventional hard copy assignments/projects. Weblogs consists of a myriad of elements the students can incorporate in order to produce an interesting and attractive journal, which they would be motivated to update. Weblog is relatively easy to manage and maintain, easy to update and extremely user-friendly so students find little difficulty handling them. The objectives of this research are to investigate the effectiveness of using Weblogs as an alternative mode for students to be collaborative with group members in their assignments/projects. Overall, this study aims to explore and investigate new options of teaching and implementing this option as a platform for the students to reflect back on the learning process of IT subject. This paper is based on a case study of Curtin University students who are enrolled in Information Technology unit.
