Simon Marginson is a Professor of Higher Education in the Centre for the Study of Higher Education at the University of Melbourne. He also holds an ARC Australian Professorial Fellowship.

His fields of research and writing are higher education, with emphasis on policy, and comparative and international education.

Current projects include a study of the internationalisation of Australian universities, a comparison of the global perspectives and activities of research universities in 12 countries, and the social and economic security of cross-border international students.

He has written several books and many articles on these topics, is a public commentator on universities, and active in international scholarly associations in the USA, Europe and Asia-Pacific.


He is a Fellow of the Academy of Social Sciences Australia, the Australian College of Education, and the Society for Research into Higher Education in the UK..
