Abstract

This Round Table session will focus on MOOCs and will provide an opportunity for participants to collaboratively explore the rapidly expanding ecosystem of Massive Open Online Courses within a global context. We will foster a Cross-institutional and Transnational dialogue in order to provide opportunities for participants to articulate, problematize and synthesize the plurality of challenges that arise when considering the institutional and curriculum imperatives in designing MOOCs. While the forms and functions of MOOCs are currently evolving they remain an opportunity for challenging assumptions re higher education in the global context. Presented will be a brief overview of MOOCs from differing perspectives as framing lenses through which to structure the discussion.

Presented will be viewpoints considering local HK institutional imperatives (Prof. Eric Tsui), challenges in academic support for MOOC teaching (John Sager), transnational curricular opportunities (Peter Duffy) and a review of some of the contextual and strategic considerations of MOOC implementation at one research university (Nick Noakes).
