Pre-conference workshop submissions
Pre-conference workshop submissions are now open!
Pre-conference workshops provide an opportunity to engage participants in the application of theory and practice, and to share best practice and innovative approaches to pedagogy.
Participants attend workshops for the opportunity to actively engage in learning. Therefore, workshops should focus on participant activities, with opportunities for questions, discussion and interaction integrated throughout the session.
All pre-conference workshops will be held on Monday, 5 July 2027.
Pre-conference workshops are allocated 180 minutes of workshop time, with an additional 30 minutes for a refreshment break.
The number of workshop slots is limited and will include both invited workshops and workshops accepted through the review process. If the program cannot accommodate all suitable pre-conference workshop proposals, facilitators will be encouraged to resubmit their proposal as a conference abstract for consideration in the main conference program.
Pre-conference workshop proposals must be submitted by midnight (AEST) on Friday, 2 October 2026.
Workshop submissions guidelines
A workshop proposal of no more than 350 words must be submitted for review. The proposal must be entered as text directly into the text box provided in the submission portal and should include the following headings:
- Aim of the workshop
- Focus of the workshop
- Presentation of research outcomes
- Provision of a practical application related to research
- Industry-focused perspective
- Overview of the workshop
- Intended audience
- Context and, where applicable, reference to literature informing the workshop
- Brief workshop plan, including activities designed to actively engage participants
Formatting guidelines
- Workshop proposals must be typed directly into the text box provided in the submission portal and must not exceed 350 words.
- The workshop title and facilitator names and affiliations will be provided during the online submission process. Do not include the workshop title, facilitator names or affiliations in the submission text box.
- All text should be entered in sentence case. Do not use ALL CAPITAL LETTERS.
- Do not include tables or images in the submission.
Review criteria
Proposals for pre-conference workshops will be reviewed against the following criteria:
- Relevance to the purposes of the HERDSA Conference – Link below https://conference.herdsa.org.au/2027/themes-and-subthemes/
- Alignment between the workshop aim, focus and overview
- A detailed workshop plan that incorporates active participant engagement
- Intended learning outcomes that focus on developing participants’ knowledge and practice
- Writing quality: clear, accurate, professional and academic
Outcome Notifications
Notification of the review outcome and acceptance decisions will be sent to the contact person (the first presenting author) from early November 2026.
Only the contact person will be notified of the acceptance or non-acceptance decision. It is their responsibility to notify all other authors of the outcome.
If accepted, the workshop title, proposal and facilitator details will be published on the conference website.
Workshop presenter registrations
Facilitators will receive complimentary registration for the pre-conference workshop, as well as catering on the workshop day, provided they have completed and paid for a full conference registration by Wednesday, 21 April 2027.
Once the facilitator has completed their full conference registration, the complimentary pre-conference workshop registration will be added.
